A friend recently shared some pictures from a cross-country flight she took with her 3-year-old son. One of the pictures (see below) depicted the Paw Patrol window decals her son was playing with on the plane.
It helped inspire today’s hint: Window decals or clings – glass-safe removable and reusable stickers – aren’t just for décor. They also make great toys, for playtime during travel and at home.
My kids, for instance, love playing with the Halloween-themed window decals I bought a while back to decorate our home for the holiday. Each September and October, they’ll spend loads of time rearranging the images and using them for imaginary play. See my daughter doing just that in the image below.
We have had more luck with the non-gel clings (that resemble stickers) than the gel ones. The gel versions can be smaller and harder for kids to play with. In addition, keep in mind that some of the decals (especially smaller ones) could be choking hazards, so be sure to keep those away from unattended young children.
Beyond making great toys themselves, window decals can also spruce up other toys, like play phones (I once used an Apple window decal to create an “Apple phone” for my toddler).
As for my friend’s son, the removable stickers couldn’t compete with his favorite plane activities: kicking the seat in front of him and slamming the tray table up and down (in-flight activities my 3 year old enjoys too). But maybe the decals will come more in handy on their next trip.
What other uses have you found for window and wall decals beyond décor?
