Look at most lists of Father’s Day gift ideas, and they’ll very likely contain tech products of some kind. This isn’t surprising considering that according to research from Ebates.com, dads want hi-tech gifts for Father’s Day this year.
However, popular gadgets like the latest iPhones, iPads and video cameras aren’t cheap, so they may not be in your Father’s Day, let alone holiday, gift budget. In fact, according to the National Retail Federation’s 014 Father’s Day Spending Survey, the average person will only spend $113.80 on gifts for dad this year, slightly down from $119.84 last year.
The good news, however, is that there is a way to give the Fathers and husbands in your life an inexpensive gadget of sorts that they’ll very likely appreciate, a gift strategy that is today’s hint.
The budget-friendly gadget gift approach: Give an accessory or two for your dad or significant other’s favorite gadget, a smart shopping strategy I learned from Andrea Woroch, a consumer and money-saving expert for Kinoli Inc. Accessories (think speakers, digital photo frames, headsets, and phone covers and cases) “tend to be less expensive than bigger electronics” as well as something “he will enjoy using,” Ms. Woroch wrote in a piece on “10 Ways to Save on Gadgets for Dad.”
Like this idea but need a little more inspiration? On the case accessory front, you could consider giving a custom photo iPhone or iPad case or a LifeProof iPhone or iPad case that truly can childproof gadgets.
If the other accessory categories mentioned above seem more your loved one’s forte, check out Cheapism’s take on “the best cheap iPod speakers” and “the best cheap digital photo frames,” among the site’s other lists of cheap electronics to consider.
Other gift suggestions to check out include the Belkin headphones mentioned in Cool Mom Pick’s roundup of “13 cool gifts for Dad under $20” and the flash drives, gaming control cover and iPhone cases included in Cool Mom Tech’s piece on “13 Father’s Day gifts for geeky dads.”
So how do I know that dads will appreciate these accessories? Well, I know my husband would. The proof: He bought me a digital picture frame for Mother’s Day last year.
